HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have recently installed new ssd to my laptop(HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx) and tried to install windows 10 to it based on the post

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Fresh-Install-Windows-10-to-new...

I have followed all the steps mentioned in the post but I am getting below error

1.jpg

I tried installing windows multiple times but got the same error and I can see multiple windows selections once I press F9

2.jpg

Am I missing something. Do I need to format the existing operating system drive (C:) and then start fresh installation in SSD?

Please help

Hi:

If there is an operating system on the 2.5" drive, Windows will always want to boot from that drive first and not the SSD.

What I recommend is that you temporarily disconnect the 2.5" drive.  Install W10 on the SSD and make sure it works as expected.

Then reconnect the 2.5' drive, format it and you should be good to go.

HP notebooks in that model series that come with dual drive configurations have no OS on the 2.5" drive.

Hi Paul,

is it possible that I format the C: of 2.5' drive and install new windows on SSD without disconnecting 2.5' drive?

Thanks

Hi:

You can try it, but make sure you have backed up any files you want to save onto a portable hard drive.
