Product: HP 15-d001si Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I bought this HP 15-d001si Notebook at a pawn shop, they told me the OS crashed, took it home and loaded Win7 on it, after install the USB ports don't work, I can boot from a flash drive and all that but as soon as windows screen pops up then usb ports die.

 

I saw in device manager there is only the USB 3.0 host, there and no root host hubs or USB 2.0 hosts

You can simply run this tool to insert the USB 3 drivers into your W7 USB installation media.

 

Works like magic.

I see from the product specs page for your model that it has a DVD drive.

 

If you can install W7 from a DVD, you will not have that problem.

 

If you do install W7 from a DVD if you have not done so already, you have to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.

You will need to slipstream the drivers into a  Windows 7 ISO. See the blog below and follow the tutorial.

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it came with W8.1 from HP.

I don't know if you installed W7 by choice, or out of desperation, but support for W7 ends in a few months.

 

You can still get the free upgrade to W10 by clicking on the blue update now button at the link below.
