Own a HP 17 inch laptop 17-BY4633DX. Battery is dead and I read online that this battery cannot be replaced....is this correct?

Whatever you read is incorrect.

The battery is internal and can be removed and replaced.

Below is the link to the parts list for your notebook.

L11119-855

You can also do a search by the HP battery part number and buy a compatible aftermarket battery that references the HP part number.

Check on Amazon or eBay for example.

Generally, it is advisable to buy a genuine HP battery but since it's so expensive, that's up to you.

I had replied to your post that I bought a battery on eBay  model L11119-855 which matched the model battery number that came with the laptop. When I installed the new battery the systray and "power and battery screen" showed a "symbol" that the battery was being charged; however, the battery was not taking a charge. I contacted the seller and the same day he sent me a replacement battery that arrived today.

Question: The replacement battery number received today reads L97300-005  (2022/07) vs L11119-855. Are theses batteries computable or did the seller just send me another batter ?

According to the parts list for the replacement battery you received, of the over 100 pages of 50 notebook models per page, it does not show the 17-by model series as one of the models that use the L97300-005 battery part number.

Also, when you look on Amazon the generic battery part number is a HWO3XL

Amazon.com: ASODI L97300-005 HW03XL 41.04Wh Laptop Battery Replacement for HP Pavilion 15-EG 15-EG00...

And the L11119-855 generic part number is a HT030.

I recommend that you contact the seller and get confirmation that the L97300-005, even though it appears in no reference material I can find, that would also work in your notebook.

'Cuz I have my doubts, but I am not a battery expert by any means.

This eBay seller has a 99.8 rating so I am disappointment and surprised he sent me the wrong battery when he also offered to give me a refund and a return mailing label for the first battery he mailed to me.
