HP 255 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop wouldn't startup - just went into HP Recovery.  I did a file backup and then a factory reset using HP Recovery.  There didn't seem to be anything else I could try.

The Recovery went on for a few hours but now it is stuck in Restoration Incomplete and "system cannot find the drive specified".

What is the easiest way to fix this?  Do I need HP Recovery media? If so how do I get hold of it?

Or is there a quicker way?  Have googled around and sometimes people are recommended to use HP Recovery media.

Hi:

Your notebook seems to be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to make a bootable USB recovery drive.  That would be equivalent to buying the HP recovery media.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool...

You could also clean install W10 by using the media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thanks but I can't do anything with the PC.  It is just stuck in the recovery manager with "Restoration Incomplete" message.   So there is no way I can use it to download and install a recovery tool.

i could use a different PC but is an older PC so probably wouldn't run exactly the same variant of Windows 10.  Also my other PC doesn't have 20 GB spare.

This link doesn't work either on my older PC https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.

I just get 404 - File or directory not found.

Is there a simple way of fixing my PC?

You're very welcome.

You should be able to run either utility on a W7 or newer PC.

This Microsoft link works just fine for me...

There is no easy way to fix a PC that is stuck in the situation yours is in.

If you can't make recovery media and you live in Canada or the United States, you can call HP at the number below and order recovery media.

I managed to find a simple solution.  It worked for me anyway and I'll give it here in case it helps others.  If anyone is having a similar problem maybe try this first before you try the other solutions.

I performed a  Windows 10 reset through Windows Recovery Environment - relatively quick and easy.  I just followed the instructions given here https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c04742289 under that heading.
