For us it hasn't helped at all from what I can tell.  When we turn the options off it stops the DMA Protection screen from coming up, but it doesn't stop the laptops from blue screening.

We only started rolling back the realtek drivers recently to try that method, but that's getting mixed results.

we started with rolling back drivers and we suspected it was the wifi driver at first, which didnt work. We started tracking the devices that blue screened driver versions and there was nothing we found that could tie it all together. It could be just bad hardware that HP put into these machines

Issue: BSOD accompanied with error message "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION". 

 

This has started happening as of around mid-January. Computers will start randomly having blue-screens followed by the error message "The deviced attempted to access memory that it was denied access to'.

 

After looking at the crash dump files + Windows update driver history, I can say with high confidence the driver causing the issue is the following:

- Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter

- PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_B852&SUBSYS_88E3103C

- Version 6001.15.155.1 (latest)

 

The number of affected machines appears to be growing day by day, this has been a sizeable issue where I work as we have hundreds of that specific model in circulation. 

 

Solution: The current solution we have is completely uninstalling the driver and installing the previous version which would be 6001.15.148.0. We have not had any other BSOD on previously affected machines after doing so.

 

Although this does work for now, it is not a feasible solution for the long-term as Windows Update / HPIA will automatically update it back to the latest version at a later date.

 

After some digging on the issue, I've found that that some people recommend disabling the DMA Protection setting in the BIOS. However, due to the security implications of disabling such feature, it is not a viable solution for us.

 

I really hope HP gets on the issue as soon as possible as I am not alone: This reply is from a post I made.

Rolling back to this driver is something we will try. When we rolled back it i was mainly rolling back to 6001.15.149.100 not 148.  We can turn windows updates off for now so drivers don't get updated while we test this fix. where do you get this version of the driver?

there was a new bios update but so far it hasn't fixed the problem. Did you disable the settings on the BIOS? if not you can try what was listed above and roll back the wifi driver to an older version. I have done it on a couple laptops and so far they havent blue screened

Not that I'm aware. The clients of mine with larger deployments are hitting over 60% of the fleet reporting daily blue screens. 

 

I don't even think HP has acknowledged the issue.

 

Changing the dma settings and typing the bitlocker keys has worked to stop it on every machine I've touched so far but it's whackamole. I'm assuming lots of staff are just not reporting it anymore out of frustration.

 

Management considering cheaper to just replace the fleet since the "fix" costs about the same in tech labor.

Yep, I've already replaced half of our HP laptops in rotation. Going to switch the rest beginning of next fiscal year. Disappointing being someone that liked HP laptops. Lenovo has performed far better for us.

Hello, I haven't had any problems since I reinstalled my laptop.

Also, I disabled an option in the DMA protection's properties.
