This morning I was working for school and decided to turn off my laptop. When I restarted it, I was greeted with a message saying to install a BIOS update (by HP), my PC was not yet booted at that point.

The downloading went fairly smoothly and the progress bar moved correctly, but ever since then it has been stuck on 100% progress.

Here is an image of the screen I see:

[edit]

The internal fans are ramped up at full speed, which kind of worries me, but it is not like my laptop is getting hot.

I bought the device a little under 2 weeks ago, which makes it even stranger.

Any useful help or support would be greatly appreciated, as some solutions from other threads, like holding the power button for 40 (forty) seconds and rebooting have no effect at all.

I understand that you are unable to update the BIOS.

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC:

  • If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

  • If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  • With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  • With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted): Click here
