@The_Fossette

I have similar issue. my notebook is ENVY x360. I read your posts and tried all options. all not working. finally I tried the reset window. still not working. below are the detail on the issue.

1) on Oct.14, noticed the camera not working, but, it was working on previous day (OCT.13).

2) on device manager, can see the camera item by using "show hidden devices". then I uninstalled the driver, reboot the computer. I used  this way to fix camera not working a couple times. the camera not working occurred a couple time in past a couple months.

3) but, unfortunately, it didn't work after reboot this time. and I can't find the camera any more in device manager. and also noticed there was error "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) " in device manager list. click to see the detail in event. it said "...was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match."

4) searched and found some post of yours. tried almost all options( throubleshooting, update driver, delete all usd device, down driver and BIOS, but, can't get BIOS update etc). not resolved. finally, I tried "reset window", after the reset window. still not resolved. but, the message in event became

" ... device was configured.

.... device not started.

Please advise what else I can try?

I think you raised a separate issue for the problem you have, which is preferable, as it seems similar but different. I do not work for HP. However, I have some potentially useful links from when I had the problem. For me the problem seems largely solved, but I am not sure which step or software update allowed the camera drivers to work more consistently without the error.

The first thing I would suggest is to take a back-up or export of all third-party drivers from a Windows image to a destination folder of your choice.

Powershell Export-WindowsDriver
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/dism/export-windowsdriver?view=win10-ps

Search for the problematic driver on the HP Customer Support - Software and Drivers, if appropriate to try to re-install
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Consider using System Restore
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/use-system-restore-a5ae3ed9-07c4-fd56-45ee-096777ecd14e

Consider Recovery options in Windows 10
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

Contact HP technical support, if appropriate.

Thanks Jonmbsmith for replies.

I posted this question when I was doing dskchk /f/r/x on my pc last nigh. It tooks 5 hours. So, I just wake up to check this morning. it is  surprised the camera showed in device manager after completed dskchk. But, it shows as grey, in event it said  i requires further installation. and in the USB list, there is "USB COMPOSITE DEVICE" showed in grew too. and the exist one USB error on still there. So, I unstalled them. and reboot. the camera working after reboot. So happy after two night working on this issue!

the camera working last less one day.  in event, it shows " further install is required". so, unstalled and reboot. after reboot, it became same issue as previous-- camera is not shown in device manager list. and there is one unknown USB device (device description request failed). .. bad to square one! ..keep trying unstall + device. no help..

any suggestion?

Thanks,
