HP Envy 17-N152SA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I have the HP Envy 17-N152SA notebook which has v1909 of Windows 10..

Twice I have tried to update the v2004 and v20H2 which the same issues, very slow boot up and shut down and the HP 3D Driveguard not working...

I belive that HP Development Company, L.P. - System - 7.0.18.1 is an update for the HP 3D Driveguard, is this to make it work with the latest Windows versions? my notebook has just updated to it via Windows update.

If it is I will try to upgrade again..

Hi, Stuart:

You are correct.

HP Development Company, L.P. - System - 7.0.18.1 is an update for the HP 3D Driveguard.

It should work with any version of W10, but it is the latest driver.

Thank you for the fast reply...

The issue I had with both v2004 and v20H2 is when shutting down the activity light did not change colour like normal, goes from white to orange... it also cause very long start up and shut down times, i,e 10 mins from desktop.. restart to desktop again...

I did revert back to v1909 which works perfect..

I was wondering if the driveguard not working was causing the issues with the boot/shutdown... as it was not working as it should, would you agree?

I know this notebook has not been tested due to its age but all other updates have gone perfect, so I wondered if thsi was updated for v2004/v20H2 and will fix my issue

You're very welcome.

The older versions of the HP 3D driveguard don't work well with the newer versions of W10, and HP has removed all of the old software from the 3D driver file.

It is very possible that the old 3D driveguard version which you may have installed in your notebook is the culprit of the issues you are facing on v2004 and 20H2.

Here is the previous driver and as you can see from the file size it is miniscule and does not offer any software or the HP 3D driveguard icon that used to be in the system tray.

I was running v 7.0.17.1 which is what i tried to use with v2002 and v20H2, the tray icon disappeared when i changed to v1709 I think it was ...

Just a thought, I am looking to upgrade to and SSD so the driveguard will not be needed, how do I uninstall it completely even just to test it on my current HDD?

I suppose if I remove it now, upgrade and try the shutdown and boot up and it works it will confirm ... or even upgrade, see if this latest one cures my issues, if not remove the driver and test again..

I did try to uninstall from device manager but it just reinstalled during the boot up like it does.. do I need to remove the driver? and how can I download it again if nneded

Hi:

When you uninstall both the HP mobile protection sensor device and driver (by checking the uninstall driver box) where indicated in that other discussion I replied to, the device should not reinstall.

It should show up as an Unknown device in the device manager.

If it is reinstalling immediately upon rebooting the PC, then unfortunately I don't know why that would be.

If it is reinstalling as a result of Windows Update reinstalling the driver, use the hide windows update utility to prevent windows update from installing the driver.

I will give it  a try, can always use my image back up to restore if needed again 🙂

This PC came with version 15 of windows and every feature update has gone perfect except this years 😞

I have an old HP 6910p notebook from 2007 with an AMD Radeon x2300 graphics adapter, and it has worked perfectly on every build of W10 except v2004 and 20H2.

I had to revert back to v1909 and I guess that is where it will end.

The newest graphics driver was for W7 and used to work fine on the other builds of W10.

The last two releases...the graphics driver is fine until you restart the PC and then the screen goes bonkers.

The only solution I could find was to retreat back to v1909.

This notebook is about 4 years old, maybe 5 ...

When I did the upgrade to v2004 and v20H2 one at the desktop stage it works perfect, just the issues with the start/shutdown which is unbearable at around 5 mins when v1909 take a couple on a bad day... and the 3D Driveguard stops... that I could live with but not the slow start/shutdown..

I may give it a try over the weekend and see if this lates driver make a  difference...

I have noticed that it has actually disappeared from my notebook driver/software page....
