HP Envy 17 2D and 3D | Press and hold the Power and the Beats buttons for 8-10 seconds. |
BIOS | LEDs blink 2 times | BIOS corruption failure | If a BIOS corruption error occurs, you might not even notice the blink codes, because as soon as the computer recognizes the error, it restarts, attempts to recover the BIOS, and then restarts again. You might notice an extra-long startup process as a result, and a message indicating that the BIOS has been recovered might display on startup. If this occurs, update the BIOS on the computer. For more information, see Updating the BIOS. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. For information on restoring the BIOS, refer to the HP support document: HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS. |
BIOS | 2.2 (blink) Caps Lock LED blinks slow 2 times followed by 2 quick blinks. | The main area (DXE) of BIOS has become corrupted, and there is no recovery binary image available. (Also happens when updating the BIOS.) | Perform BIOS recovery with external media (USB or CD-ROM). For information on how to restore the BIOS refer to the HP support document: HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS. |

There is no beats button on the 17-2002tx - but it doesn't matter now.
I wrote the device off this morning, and disassembled it with a screwdriver. An IC located on the board is in a melted state, probably the BIOS itself.
Thanks for the help, but it looks like I'm replacing a laptop.
