Probook

I have 14 Elite B&O, Elite and probooks, 2014 ish donated by a local company, that I am trying to repurpose for use by digitally deprived families.  Usually, I swap the drive for a cloned SSD which get over the data security issues of the previous owner who donated the Laptop.  Failing that I install via an USB CloudReady NetWare installation to turn the HP into a Chromebook for use for learning at home.  These laptops keep coming back with no OS on the Drive.  I have gone through the installation process but when I try to boot without the USB I get the error message.  I would hate to scrap these that could be of great value to pupils and families and support home learning, which is a problem that pre-dates COVID but COVID highlighted the issue.  Any help gratefully accepted.

Hello Pansophy, I work on the CloudReady team over at Google.  That "no OS" error after the installation has completed is typically caused by a mismatch between the UEFI/Legacy boot settings in the BIOS of the machine, and the way that a machine was installed with CloudReady. For example, if a machine was installed via booting the USB stick in UEFI mode, but the BIOS of the machine is set to boot in Legacy mode, this issue could occur.  Additionally, some specific HP models may have particular BIOS settings needed to successfully.  If a specific HP model has been formally tested by our QA team, there will be notes for it here:  https://guide.neverware.com/supported-devices/

Thank you for your reply; the supported device list is very useful.

The Solution sudo parted /dev/sda worked on many and finding a workaround to boot from USB helped with others.

I have repurposed over 60 laptops so far and the information in these posts has been very helpful.
