HP EliteBook 840 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Community,

A few days ago, I noticed that I couldn't use the touchpad on my laptop to move the mouse, but I could use it to click. Externally connected mouse was working perfectly, but the touchpad would not move.

Our IT guy decided to run a System Restore. In the process, a colleague got frustrated and restarted the PC. Then, I couldn't log into Windows again. The IT guy decided to do a fresh Windows install.

After the install completed, every time I log in, Windows hangs for a long time before working.

I found this answer here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-EliteBook-840-G6-hangs-after-startup/td-p/750112...

But it seems discussion has stalled. Can anyone please help me?

Thank you

Hello @Badruayomaya

Welcome ! 🙂

As mentioned in the link you refer to, what you describe sounds like software issue to me caused by either account login issue, software glitch or some faulty 3rd party app ? This is not caused by HP or the hardware most likely.

This is a business class device and if you use it to login to a domain, certain delays may be happening depending on the local network/domain configuration

If you use it to login to an online Microsoft connected account  (and not to local PC account) , certain delays may be experienced, as well, depending on the local network configuration.

  • I would recommend that you or the IT guy reinstall the operating system and use a local account (not an online Microsoft connected account). Ensure that Windows 10 is fully up to date eventually.
  • Check the below PDF file for instructions/reference.
