Hello,

I have the HP ENVY 13 -(13-d006nc). I need to flash my bios from the USB.
I downloaded the bios version suggested for my model from HP site
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-13-d000-notebook-pc/7771341/model/...

I followed the steps, checked the current BIOS info - 80DF, BIOS F.24 11/10/2015, downloaded the newer version and created a USB fd with it.

However, when I press the F2 I only have the option to check the HDD or Memory.

I have checked the files installed on the USB, but there is nothing in the NEW folder. In the current folder there is no

080DF.bin file, which I would expect there while it says 80DF in my BIOS .

List of available /bin files:

080D7

080DA

080E6

080E9

Any idea how could I update the BIOS from the USB, please?
{Installing from windows is not an option for me}

Why do you need to flash the BIOS?

Don't do it just because you can.  It is smart to upgrade the BIOS only if there is a actual need.

Use the HP Support Assistant to see if there is a newer version that should be installed. That is a far safer method.

Thanks 4 ur reply Erico.
Check the above link:
NOTE: HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.

This would be one of the reasons

The new one is

Double-click the downloaded BIOS softpaq instead of trying the ROM file in a USB flash drive procedure.

That is since you don't seem to want to use the HP Support Assistant to accomplish the update.

That is reserved for those times when BIOS is corrupted.

You have not reported your BIOS as corrupted, so no need exists to do that

Use the safer methods unless you just don't mind having the possibly of bricking your notebook.  Keep it simple.

I was following this HP tutorial:

http://youtu.be/72uwa0OZPPw

and I'm wondering why it tells me to find the SYSTEM BOARD ID number, which is 80DF , but there is no 80DF on the flash disk.

I don't have Windows on my Envy 13 - I'm using Ubuntu 😉

Any ideas on what to do now and how to upgrade the BIOS from USB now? Which version to use?

080D7, 080DA, 080E6, 080E9 ?

It doesn't work like with a desktop motherboard.  Finding the BIOS from

Finding the BIOS from the system board identification  is uncommonly difficult.

Just why do you feel the need to update?

Is there some issue?

You have Linux installed? Looks like you should have dual booted Windows and Linux.

Right now the discussion got to the point where I'm questioned why I want to do that, why I don't have Windows... why?

1.) Why I don't have the Option to update the BIOS from USB?
- is it while I have completely removed everything that was on the Laptop from the begining and I have only one partition now?
2.) If it doesn't work like that why does HP create such a tutorial for NOTEBOOKs than?
{did you even try to open the provided links? 🙂 }
No offence but questioning why I want to do that or why I don't have windows is IMHO pointless. Sorry if I'm wrong 🙂

Hello,

I am having the exact same problem updating my laptop. I can't find one person at HP that is even willing to try and understand that they are not providing the update for system board 80DF. Did you have any luck finding the correct bios update?

Thanks

Well I did sort out the issue. After downloading the bios I found out that the version mentioned by HP is not present and wasn't nowhere to be found I gave it a try and clicked all the other options.

One of them has been installed afterwards, but I don't remember which one it was 😕

Thanks for the reply!

So basically you are saying that you installed a BIOS file and it worked, even though the file name didn't match your board ID?
