HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP Envy laptop has for some reason locked itself with the bitlocker protection. I understand that this is a a security feature and that at some point I must have setup the recovery key at some point, but for the life of me I can't find where I would have put it.

I don't need anything on the local harddrive as I've got all my important data in cloud storage, but I can't figure out how to just factory reset this thing. Is there an image I can download to a USB and reset it to factory that way? Anything I try that's built in still requires the recovery key.

Has anyone else run into this before? I assume I can boot up to a Windows install USB and just reformat the drive and install Windows from scratch, but I would certainly like the original install that was on the laptop.

Thanks!

David

In many cases you have to supply the key before you can install fresh Windows. You can use your Microsoft account to recover bit locker

Hi and thanks for the response but it's not exactly what I need.

I can't find the key. The key is lost. I will not be able to recover the laptop so I want to just reimage the laptop to the factory settings.

Can I boot to a Windows 10 bootable USB and reformat the drive? If so, is there an HP Envy image I can download to get all the drivers and applications that come default on the HP Envy laptop?
