Microsoft Windows 11

I recently bought an NVMe SSD from Samsung and upgraded my laptop. Prior to that, Windows was installed on the built-in SATA HDD, and I switched the operating system from SATA to NVMe SSD. However, while I was installing the OS to the new SSD, there was a mistake—possibly in the bios or a system setting—and even though all the updates were flawlessly installed, there was one firmware update that wouldn't simply install. It's been weeks, but I still haven't figured out what's causing this update to fail to install.

I have also tried to install this specific firmware after downloading it from the HP website, but that file is a .bin file and I am not able to install it, trying to install it using cmd gives an error that system cannot open file. So installing it separately doesn't happen.

I also wanted to add that In my device manager there is not driver missing and If I try to update it then windows says it cannot find a suitable drive for this and if try to update it using file then also I doesn't happens.

I am attaching some images of the firmware and my current system information below.

Please go through the images and suggest your opinion on how I can really resolve this issue.

PS: I have tried to reset the PC twice, but this update does come with the first windows update where all the drivers are installed and it doesn't complete. This update is not an optional update and has to be installed as per my laptop.

Hi:

The Detection Verification device needs the audio driver installed.

The problem is...there is only a W10 audio driver on your notebook's support page.

You can try the W10 audio driver in the hope that it installs that device.

6.0.8688.1

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104010.exe

The firmware update...I would not persist in trying to install it.

It has nothing to do with the missing Detection Verification device.

If your notebook is running fine other than that one Detection Verification device not installing, here is how to not see that Firmware update again:

Run the Hide Windows Update utility that I zipped up and attached below.

Unzip and run the utilty.

A window will open, and it will search for pending updates.

It should find the HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.23.0.0 update.

Check the box to hide the update.

The utility will run again and report the problem is 'fixed.'

Restart the PC and when you try and run the update again, it should disappear, never to return unless you run the utility again to hide the update.

I have tried both the things that you told me to do and restarted the Laptop. Now that Detection Verification issue is resolved and thank you for that but the firmware update part that you suggest didn't work I had run that utility and hide all the Updates that are not relevant but it is still showing up in the Setting of Windows update as a non optional update.

Can you please suggest that if I try to download that same firmware then how can I install the .cab file or a .bin file? And When I tried to do it through cmd then I got error that system cannot open that file. So Do you Know how to resolve it?

You're very welcome.

I am surprised that the utility didn't present the HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.23.0.0 as an option for you to hide.

Here's the problem and unfortunately, I don't know what to do about it.

Windows is pushing a BIOS update to your notebook which may not be the right one for it and that is why it won't install.

What should have happened is the firmware update should have installed and then prompt you to restart the PC.

Then the BIOS update would have started.

Have you installed the latest BIOS update for your notebook?

It is F.26

The update was written to be run on W10 though, so I don't know what would happen if you ran it on W11.

It may work fine, or it may destroy your notebook beyond repair.

I have personally updated the BIOS running on W11 on a HP 15-ee0047nr notebook which was only written to be run on W10, and it worked fine for me.

However, I cannot tell you with 100% certainty that the BIOS update for your notebook will also run fine on W11.

In any event, sorry that I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

Perhaps someone on the Microsoft Windows forum can tell you how to prevent that update from showing up in W11, and not just tell you to contact HP.

It is obviously not necessary to have it installed, since your notebook is running fine.

Even the BIOS update on your notebook's support age is not critical.

All it does is to provide improved security, whatever that means.

Well I wanted to say that the utility you told me to run worked fine i mean I searched for the update and found it and I explicitly selected the hide checkbox and then completed the task after which I have restarted the laptop but that didn't work because even after restarting that HP Inc. Firmware-15.23.0.0 was still in the windows update and it didn't resolved. Then I tried again running that utility but this time it wasn't able to find the firmware which was supposed to be hidden but didn't.

I have also installed the BIOS that you have given there F.26 but It also didn't work. Even after restarting and properly running the setup nothing is changed. And I also believe the reason you are suggesting that this firmware (HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.23.0.0) is not for my laptop or it isn't working properly with W11. But previously my BIOS was F.26 which is what HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.23.0.0 is all about (maybe not sure) and the problem is that it is always in pending mode in Windows Update because of which I am not able to check for update anytime I want.

Well I want to thank you for help me in this. I really do appreciate your support. Thank you

You're very welcome.

If you checked the box and hid the update, then it worked.

Sometimes it takes a few restarts/days to resolve.

You will probably get a message on Windows Update that it 'Needs Attention' and when you go to click on the firmware update, it will go away.

Now that you ran the utility, you have to run it and select unhide windows updates and there you will find the hidden firmware update.

Don't do that though.

Eventually it should straighten itself out and be removed as an update if it was hidden.
