HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c3000 (767L6AV)

HP installed the latest BIOS and now my laptop won't go into Sleep mode (Modern Standby). It merely turns off the display. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps for restoring Sleep I can find: disabled all wake timers, checked devices, turned on Sleep in the power plan, etc. I've made no other changes recently besides the BIOS update, so apparently that's the cause.

How can I get it to Sleeo again?

Thanks for your suggestions. None of them fixed the problem.

I did get it Modern Standby working again by turning off wake timers (most of which were inserted by HP without my knowledge) and modifying other registry-level settings in the Power part of the registry. Apparently, it wasn't the BIOS update but something else HP updated at around the same time.

Hi @dbookbinder,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with power management issues after a BIOS update can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Check Power Plan Settings:

  • Open the Power Options menu by right-clicking on the battery icon in the system tray and selecting "Power Options."
  • Make sure your selected power plan has the appropriate settings for sleep.
  • Click on "Change plan settings" next to your chosen power plan, then click on "Change advanced power settings."
  • Look for the "Sleep" settings and ensure they are configured correctly.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure all your device drivers are up to date. Sometimes, a new BIOS might require updated drivers to function properly.
  • Visit the HP support website for your laptop model and download and install the latest drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers.

Rollback BIOS:

  • If the issue started after a recent BIOS update, you might consider rolling back to the previous version.
  • Check HP's official website for your laptop model to find the BIOS/UEFI firmware download page.
  • If there's a previous version available, download it and follow the instructions provided to roll back the BIOS.

Reset BIOS to Default:

  • Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Del).
  • Locate an option like "Load Setup Defaults" or "Restore Defaults" and select it.
  • Save and exit the BIOS settings.

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Even though you just updated the BIOS, it's possible that a subsequent update has been released to address the issue.
  • Check HP's official website for your laptop model for any newer BIOS updates and install them if available.

Remember to back up important data before making significant changes to your system, such as rolling back the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
