Need a password password reset

Welcome to the forum @alexusmac

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Just to note:

Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery.  As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

@smileconfidence

What is going on -- is a change in HP policy whereby they no longer send out those files.

To reset a BIOS password now, since that is encoded into the firmware of the system board, HP requires that the system board be replaced, and while that cost varies by model of PC, it is generally around $200 USD.

That is the new policy.

Welcome to the HP Community smileconfidence,

Whats going on is that HP just like all other manufacturers have found a new way to suck every penny from their customers.

[edit]

If they do replace the system board it is just from another customer that they removed the password using the master generator.

Or they just remove the password using the master password and send the same one back but charging you $200 for a new one.

WHAT A SCAM.

Best regards,

Next time someone talks to tech support ask them how they plan on shipping back your original system board after the replace it?????

Being a compurer engineer for some years to put it bluntly what you have just said is rubbish and a lie .

Can we have some truth please.

What you are saying is a policy not the real truth

If you are going to answer please talk factually
