Recently, my Spectre has started randomly getting the Blue Screen of Death with the following information - Stop Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, what failed: atikmdag.sys. The FIRST time this happened, my computer booted back up with a message that said "The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default configuration and will be rebooted. Please check your BIOS Setup options to see if they change." It rebooted fine and I had no issues with it until a couple days later when I was doing homework, I had taken a break to get on my phone and when I looked up it suddenly BSOD with the same message, but did not say anything about the CMOS checksum. Today in class, my computer BSOD again. I'm not sure what is causing this to happen, and luckily my computer keeps coming back on and booting into Windows, but I would like to know what is causing this issue. I was thinking it had something to do with my computer being on Windows 1903 (which is technically supported for my computer according to the HP website) or something with my AMD driver (which HP also signs and releases on a different schedule than AMD themselves).
I'm really not sure what's causing this issue, and I can't recreate the issue myself, but I really don't want this to become a frequent problem. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
Sincerely,
NoSafeBrain2

@NoSafeBrain2 Welcome to HP Community!
Follow the step by step instructions:
Step 1: Download and install the latest ati graphic driver AND DONT TURN OFF OR RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AFTER INSTALLATION
Step 2: Then go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and rename atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.sys.old.
Step 3: Go to ati directory (usually in C:\ATI) and find the file atikmdag.sy_.
Step 4: Copy the file to your Desktop directory.
Step 5: Open cmd.exe by going to Start -> type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
Step 6: Change the directory to Desktop by typing chdir Desktop.
Step 7: Then, type EXPAND.EXE atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys. Or,
expand -r atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys
Step 8: When the expansion is complete, copy the new atikmdag.sys from your Desktop to
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
Step 9: Restart your computer and the problem should be resolved.

@Riddle_Decipher,
Hi, thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I was unable to follow these steps because a) I have no "atikmdag.sys" driver in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, and b) I have no ATI directory.
Additionally, where would I find the latest ATI graphics driver?
Thank you in advance,
Sincerely,
NoSafeBrain2

@NoSafeBrain2 The graphics card drivers should be available on the HP website, for your ease of access you may simply click here to access the same
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
