Gotcha.
Well there is a one in a million longshot...
Inside that Gigabyte tool zip file, are W7 storage controller drivers for the Intel and Samsung Nvme drives.
I know they are not the same type storage device as an eMMC drive, but perhaps the drivers work the same way on both.
Ya never know unless you try...

Hi
I have tried a few solutions and so far no luck but the following I think pinpointed the issue
One option was to install a windows to go on a usb, this fails bsod again at disksys but this was taken from a working install on a HP pavilion (one we fixed on here) so has no drivers for this specific machine, however as I read the interweb it appears it is not the emmc driver W7 has this) it is the controller for the driver network.
not sure why that stops it booting from the usb on the usb but...
On a normal start up f9, i can see the usb2 only (and emmc) drive but not any usb3 drive in a usb3 port
Now if I try a standard instalation to the usb drive it does not show up as available drives usb2 or usb3 port despite having loaded from a usb3 port inserted rufus w7 uefi gpt (or mbr) drive (its a usb2 only transcend drive in the usb3 port)
Now trying the last option/combination I can see of a W7 uefi mbr with nvme and usb3 drivers inserted with the utility above.
If this fails then I will admit defeat! and retire this machine
I have no problem in making a W10 install vhdx file on a usb3 drive so long as it is inserted into the usb2 port and booting from that.
For anyone readin this later, one good workaround for the small drive we found was to fit a 64gb sd xc card and then use the symbolick link simlink
We moved all the program files, program files(x86) the hidden prgram data, downloads, documents etc basically everything but the windows folder to the drive as copies
then made symlinks with the j comand as per the example below
mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fyourfile" "D:\program files (x86)\yourfile"
this then stopped the W10 update issues and made the machine usable - as a footnote I did this with a W10 install on a usb stick (as mentioned above) and so was able to delete the files and reboot
So final update as I have been trying the w7 inject drivers install - BSOD
or Beaten, Sad, Over it, Drink anyone...
