HELP!! I have an HP laptop and it was running kind of slow. So I did a factory reset on it today, and now it's showing a blue screen that says "Your computer ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart it for you". But it keeps restarting constantly. I googled that and did what it told me to, but it's still doing the same thing. Please help me fix this!!!

Hi @KimberS1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is stuck in a boot loop after the factory reset. This usually happens due to a corrupted reset process, missing system files, or hardware issues. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to fix it:

Force Shutdown & Restart

  1. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the laptop turns off.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

If it still loops, move to next step.

Boot into Advanced Startup

Since your system is stuck in a loop, try forcing Windows Recovery Mode:

  1. Turn off the laptop by holding the power button.
  2. Turn it back on and as soon as the HP logo appears, turn it off again.
  3. Repeat 3-4 times until you see "Preparing Automatic Repair".
  4. When you reach the Recovery screen, select Advanced options.

Use Startup Repair

  1. From Advanced options, go to TroubleshootAdvanced optionsStartup Repair.
  2. Select your Windows user account and enter your password if prompted.
  3. Let Windows attempt to repair itself.

If Startup Repair fails, go to the next step.

Boot into Safe Mode

  1. From the Advanced options menu, go to Startup Settings.
  2. Click Restart and, when the options appear, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  3. If it starts successfully, try:
    • Running Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr in the search bar).
    • Uninstalling any recent updates (Go to Settings > Update & Security > View Update History > Uninstall Updates).
    • Running "sfc /scannow" in Command Prompt (Admin) to repair system files.

If Safe Mode does not work, proceed to next step.

System Restore

  1. From Advanced options, select System Restore.
  2. Choose a restore point before you did the factory reset.
  3. Let Windows restore your system.

If you don’t have a restore point or it fails, go to the next step.

Reinstall Windows Using a USB Drive

If nothing works, you may need to reinstall Windows:

  1. Create a Windows 10/11 USB Installation Media:
    • Use another working PC and download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
    • Follow the instructions to create a bootable USB drive.
  2. Boot from USB:
    • Insert the USB into your laptop.
    • Turn it on and press F9 (or Esc + F9) to access the Boot Menu.
    • Select the USB drive and press Enter.
  3. Reinstall Windows by selecting "Custom Install" and deleting the corrupted partitions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
