You're welcome and thanks for providing the information.

You try running a test on the notebook's hardware.

  • Let the laptop warm up.
  • Power om the laptop and immediately hit the f2 key repeatedly (7-8 times). This will load the hardware diagnostics screen.
  • You should see an option to run the system test, system board tests, etc  If you see an option for extensive system test then please initiate it.
  • Have the charger plugged in because it might take a long time for the test.

Also, I had asked you "If the issue persists then try to power on the laptop using only the charger (remove the battery out). Likewise also, try to power on the laptop by inserting only the battery (disconnect the charger)." Let me know how that goes.

Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion G4 series laptop. I read that you have to keep the laptop for about an hour in the sunlight to power it on. Otherwise, the laptop does not power on.

Honestly, this is rarest of the rare issues I have ever come across.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7lSince how long are you facing this issue?
  • In case you shut down the laptop for a short span of time, then do you once again have to keep it in the sunlight?
  • Did any hardware changes take place on the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then try to power on the laptop using only the charger (remove the battery out). Likewise also, try to power on the laptop by inserting only the battery (disconnect the charger).

I hope this information helps. Let me know how it goes. Good luck!
