I had an issue with my laptop where, out of the random, about two or three days ago, it just stopped booting on startup. In an effort to fix it, I tried running diagnostics on it, rebooting it, starting in safe mode, and all sorts of other things, until I gave up and preformed a system reset (the shorter option). It preformed the reset just fine, and reinstalled Windows without an issue as well, but now it’s stuck in a continuous loop: it keeps trying to download the updates, then it’ll stop at “just a moment…” and restart. There is no issue with my internet (wireless), and I’ve tried it both plugged in and without the charger. I even did a few restarts myself. At one point while loading, it crashed and gave me the “HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI” screen. How do I break it from the loop?

(I couldn’t get the serial number to register the device, but it’s an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible laptop if that helps.)

Apologies for the late response, but I brought it to a friend who works on computers for a living. He discovered that the hard disk was corrupted, so he replaced it. It solved the issue and now everything works normally.

Hello @Reyminiscence

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

The Windows file system could be corrupt or there is a hard disk error or undefined technical error.

(1) Test your hardware Using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

See section <Running HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests when Windows doesn't start>

See how it works:

(2) Please report your results ( error messages, take pictures )

( if serial number, device id, UUID, System Board CT Number is displayed, please blur )

This video shows how to test your HP computer hardware using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. If you suspect that your computer has hardware issues, follow the steps in this video to isolate and identify them using the HP PC Diagnostics UEFI. Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 00:18 Download and install

As every other time, this is the result. Nothing has ever said “failed,” though I got the error code “0xc0000185” (all zeros) a couple times before the reset and the current looping.

The test screen is not the same version as the one in the video you sent, I’m not sure if that affects it or not.

Hello @Reyminiscence

Please repeat <Memory Check>

HP Recommended

I did a direct test of the memory under “component tests.”

Hello @Reyminiscence

Run Component Tests -> Extensive Memory Test ( if available or similarly named )

HP Recommended

Preformed the extensive memory test.

Hello @Reyminiscence

What <Windows operating system> did you use before it crashes ? Windows 10 or 11 ?

HP Recommended

I don’t remember, I think it was 10 and it wanted to update or something to 11, but I stopped getting that upgrade message, so I’m not sure.

Hello @Reyminiscence

Do you have very important data on the hard drive that needs to be backed up beforehand?

We need to reinstall the Windows operating system.
