HP pavillion Notebook turns off on it's own

Hi,

My pavillion Notebook keeps turning off on it's own if the charger isn't plugged in, even though the battery is full. (it won't do it straight away).
Then after that i try turn it on but it won't power on unless the charger has been plugged in. The only way to stop it going off is if i keep the charger plugged in.

It's only recently started doing it.

I was thinking it could be either a faulty battery or over heating. But surely if it's over heating it would go off even if the chager was in.

I'm tempted to get  a new battery but don't want to just incase that isn't the fault?

Hoping someone more knowledgable can help?

Many Thanks
David Weeks

Hi David,

Definitely is the battery in this case.

What is the age of this laptop/battery?

Can you do HP battery test from HP support assistant software?

Thanks for the reply. Visruth. The laptop/battery is about 14 months old.

I did the test after i posted this question and it did fail. Although i did it more than once and the others passed. Strange, i'm sticking with the fail.

David

Hi David,

You're welcome.

Replacing battery with a new one preferably HP battery part specific for your model, would be the solution to this issue in my opinion.
