HP Notebook 15
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have had to replace my hard drive in my Notebook . I have a recovery USB created  ehen I first had the laptop. I have tried to to use the HP recovery manager but the "I  need help immediately " option is not selectable. Only the check disk option available. I have been able to use Diskpart to create/delete partitions on thenew drive so I know it is visable. Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless HP has changed how these work -- you boot from the USB, run recovery manager -- and it does everything else.

Since the recovery starts with reformatting the ENTIRE drive, you accomplish nothing by formatting it yourself.
