Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

So, the motherboard in my laptop died because I had left my laptop turned on in my car for a month without charging it. I took it out of the car a while back and I recently put in a new "genuine" motherboard I purchased from eBay. I'm at the point where I need to install an os so I can use it but, as you can see from the pics, I ran into an issue here. The usb drive is what I'm using to install Windows and I am certain that there is a hard drive because it's supposed to be soldered into the motherboard. What do I need to do to fix this? The 2nd and 3rd pics show what's in the "disk list" with the USB drive. The 4th and 5th pics show an empty "disk list" without the USB drive. The 1st pic shows an empty list of places to install Windows.

Hello @Eric2013

While in diskpart, use the following commands:

  • list disk [ENTER}
  • clean [ENTER}
  • convert gpt [ENTER}
  • create partition primary [ENTER}
  • assign letter=Z [ENTER}
  • exit [ENTER}

Reboot the device and try to install it again

[ENTER] means that after you write the command, you need to hit the ENTER button from the keyboard

Just for your information, since you no longer use original parts, the advice is provided as-is and there is no guarantee it will work.

Hope it helps. Let me know how it goes 🙂

Does that mean the os would be installed onto the USB drive instead of the hard drive?

Hello,

No, this means the disk will be converted into GUID Partition Table (GPT).

>> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/windows-setup-installing-using...

>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table

May be it will become visible for the Windows installer after that.

No worries, it can be reversed if needed

I'm not worried. I just don't think BIOS is recognizing the hard drive because the disk size is supposed to be 32gb and NOT 14gb.

I just tried it but it affected my USB's and I know that because of "boot device not found." I restarted my laptop because none of the options showed up and I decided to exit out of the setup. Which inadvertantly restarts the laptop.
