I just turned my pc on as usual, and suddenly is shown an error message indicating that I have to do a backup of my hard drive and run a hard drive test from boot.  I followed the steps and the hard drive test shows the following info:

Testing Drive:1

SMART Check: Failed

Failure ID: MC7L9K-8PCAR9-MFGGRG-60BU03

Product ID: Y0T72PA#ACJ

Hi:

Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted minus your notebook's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message

If you can still get into Windows, back up any files you need to save onto a portable hard drive.

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP Notebook PC (AMD) * Models: 14-an0XX * Models: 14-as0XX * Models: 14-au0XX * Models: 14z-an000HP ...

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

Since your notebook came with FreeDOS, you will need to have the W10 operating system and product key to reinstall Windows.

Hard disk failure can happen anytime with anybody because of bad power supply, virus attack, damaged block, bad sectors, corrupted operating system etc. However, the end result is the same i.e.; data loss.

For further information, I suggest you to check out the below blog to get the list of top 6 reasons for hard disk failure with solutions that help you to recover your data easily & more conveniently:
