Compaq CQ58

Old laptop and haven't used it in a long while and wanted to see if there was anything on it I wanted to move over. Went to reboot it and it said something about the hard drive, so did some tests to make sure things were okay and it gave me a Hard Drive SMART Check failure.

The failure ID is PU2FHF-6P09NV-XD6X1F-60AN03

Tried to look around here to see if anyone ever had the same issue and found nothing so far. Anyone know what this ID means?

PS - The OS is most likely still windows 8.1 x32 but I can't remember or figure it out

Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced. Is it still under warranty ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

Looks like your machine is out of warranty, you have to replace its HDD.

Hi,

The failure id indicates "Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure"

You will need to replace the hard drive.

On page 32 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03550054

What you need is a 2.5" SATA3 HDD of your desired brand.

You can reinstall Windows by downloading media from Microsoft

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

Hope it helps,

David
