Hi...

when i try to run a hard disk test... i get the  messege “no hard disk installed” 

what to do..?

Hi,

The test (system) is not seeing the hard drive, meaning not installed physically.

You should see if the hard drive has "come loose" from the slot.

Most likely the hard drive is defective and needs to be replaced.

If you provide the exact model or product number we can take a look at the notebook in question.

can i replace the hard drive with a new one without loosing Windows or do i have to reinstall Windows ...?

Hi,

You will need to reinstall Windows. What version did you have installed?

You will need to be more precise with the model name or provide the product name as G6 is not enough

Example:

HP Pavilion G6-2306EL

 

In the link I provided above it shows how to find it.

 Is it possible to download w8 (for free) and reinstall after changing the harddrive..?

Hi, if your computer had Win 8 installed from manufactures probably key is included on motherboard so you can replace hard disk and install Win 8 and o.s will activate itself when connected.

 

Beware of differences beetween 8 and 8.1

Thnx Big help... Can i download W 8.1 or do i have to download W8 and then upgrade to 8.1...

because W8 was or are preinstalled on the pc when i brought it...?

I believe it is not so simple as @Javier_Alvarez mentions, as for WIN 8, I believe it will ask you for a product key during install.

Take a look at this thread which explains how you can download and install win 8.1 with product key which is in your firmware.

I have tried recently on Toshiba laptops and seems works, just override installation when key is required an after install and connect system itself validates it.
