I noticed today that I dont have a CD/DVD drive listed in "My Computer" or System devices

Removed and reinserted it but still nothing

The Bios on this machine is lame in that it has no settings displayed and does not list all the onboard hardware anyway so not sure if that is seeing it.

I'm installing windows 10 again from scratch and I'll see how that goes

Windows 10 Freshly installed and DVD drive still absent ?

I'm kind of lost now if I'm honest.?

Does the drive show up in Vista?

The reason I ask is the dv6000/dv9000 model series with the AMD processors and vNidia chipsets were plagued with motherboard overheating issues and one of the many devices that eventually disappear is the DVD drives and wifi adapters.

If the DVD drive was there the other day when you installed Vista,  try going through these troubleshooting steps at the link below...Method 6 may be your best option since it is not showing up at all.  But go through the applicable ones.

Thanks

Tried all the fixes relevant there and still no luck

I cant recall if it was there when vista was installed the other day but may just reinstall vista to see

in the meantime could it be the chipset drivers aren,t quite right?

I mean I still have issues with the SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

This device does not exist.

&

Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

This device does not exist.

could in the coprocessor and unrecognised base system devices that were resolved earlier be slightly woring too

was there ever windows 7 drivers released for this machine

thanks

Hi:

There were never W7 drivers released for the dv6000 model series.

I don't understand why the card reader won't install.

No one ever reports errors with that device by using the Vista drivers, and I know that the first driver I posted is the one for your model.

If there are no other devices with the ! marks, they are not the cause of the issue, and I doubt the other parts of the card reader system are either.

I think you may have to try Vista again, and make sure everything works, including the card reader.

You need to rule out hardware issues -- especially with the DVD drive.

Thanks - That makes sense

Installing vista Just now and I'll see how that goes

Same with vista - exact same driver conflicts and no cd drive

for the skip I think

I'm thinking the DVD drive controller has lost power from the motherboard.

See if you can boot from it.

Does the tray open when you press the button?

Does the indicator light turn on if there is a disk in the drive?
