Hiya, I've been having several problems with my Envy 15 being slow over the past year or so. I've identified and solved a couple problems such as temperature issues and the insufficient power adapter that came with the notebook(the device is rated for 19.5v at 3.33a whereas the adapter provides 19.5v at 2.31a) but there's one that I'm having trouble fixing, and that's updating drivers and BIOS to their latest versions. I'm aware that my notebook model is no longer supported and my specific notebook is no longer under warranty, but I've been browsing ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq in search of a newer BIOS version than my current one with no luck so far.
My current BIOS version/date as shown in msinfo32 is "Insyde F.36, 25/07/2016". If anyone could help me find a more recent BIOS version for my device than that one, I'd very much appreciate it!
Thanks!

Hi @Lurmey
Based on the provided information, your PC model is HP ENVY Notebook - 15-ae000na
Here is a link for your BIOS update(s) >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-15-ae000-notebook-pc/7771345/mode...
Based on the revision history (available on the website above) , the only updates which have been provided are updates to security issues, no performance issues. Therefore, this makes me believe your problem may not be resolved with a BIOS update. However, you will never know unless you tried it. It's up to you if you want to update the BIOS.

Hello @Lurmey
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.
Personally, I do not recommend you update it unless you experience some issues with your existing BIOS and you are sure that the new BIOS will fix it.
General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.
Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

If you still believe you have to update your BIOS and you are ready to take the risk, provide me with your HP product model and the product number (p/n) - here is how to obtain it >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108

Thank you for your insights. I'm aware that flashing the BIOS is a risky manoeuvre and should only be done when needed. I believe that updating the BIOS may solve an issue I'm having with my CPU fan not responding to temperatures correctly, though it may also be due to a hardware fault that I'm unaware of.
What's your take on this? Would updating the BIOS have any possibility of solving this issue? There are several issues I'm having with my laptop but many of them I have solved, such as the overheating due to the fan not spinning up correctly (solved with a cooling pad and a lot of cleaning), and general performance issues (solved with a power adapter that actually outputs 3.33 amps instead of the original 2.31 amp).
My laptop hasn't had any recent external damage or sharp impacts to my knowledge. I know in the past it took an impact to the right-hand side of the touchpad, though I'm unsure which hardware component is below that spot.
