My HP Stream laptop, serial number 5CD147BD7K, refuses to display the operating system and keeps showing the message "Automatic Repair." When I try to start it, I receive the stop code: CRITICAL PROCESS DIED. I have followed all the quick troubleshooting guides, but my laptop still does not display the operating system.

Hello,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP device is showing the "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC" error, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the Computer: Ensure the device is completely powered down.
  2. Disconnect All Peripherals: Remove all external devices like USB drives, printers, etc., but keep the mouse, keyboard, and monitor connected.
  3. Perform the Reset:
    • Unplug the AC adapter.
    • Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds to reset the system.
    • Reconnect the AC adapter, then power on the computer.

Restore BIOS Default Settings

  1. Access BIOS Setup:
    • Start the computer and press the F10 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  2. Reset to Defaults:
    • In BIOS, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
    • Press F10 to save the settings and exit BIOS.

Run System Tests

  1. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Search for the "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows" app on your computer and run it. If not installed, download it from the HP Hardware Diagnostics website.
  2. Conduct Fast Test (About 4 minutes):
    • In the app, click "Computer Tests" and select "Start Fast Test" to ensure main components function correctly.
  3. Run Extensive Test if Necessary (2 hours or more): Choose "Switch to Extensive Tests" for a more thorough check if no problems are found in the Fast Test.

Reset Computer Using Windows Recovery Environment

  1. Enter Windows Recovery Environment:
    • Restart the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly or use the Windows Recovery environment if available.
  2. Select Troubleshoot:
    • From the options, choose "Troubleshoot" and then "Reset This PC".

Contact HP Customer Support

If the above steps do not resolve your issue, please contact HP Customer Support for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
