Hello,
I have installed dual boot Linux, then I deleted it, now Windows boots fine, the problem is I can't restore factory settings.
No matter what I try I see message please provide your windows OS recovery media.
I have tried F11 and it cant fint recovery partition. When Windows start I see the recovery partition is there I just can't start the process.
I see in Windows Explorer: RECOVERY (D:) 1.64Gb free of 13.3Gb
In disk management I see other volumes too. I have used diskpart and assigned letters to all and now I see in Windows Explorer:
Windows RE tools (I have assigned letter K: its 472Mb free of 979Mb
Local drive H: 146Mb free of 256Mb - this my EFI drive here is what I have there:
Volume in drive H has no label.
Volume Serial Number is DAA7-054A

I do have installed EasyBCD and tried to create new boot options adding recovery partitions as new WinPE Extracted File System entry and when I restart I see the new entries:
Win Recovery
Win RE
Neither of them works.
reagentc /info
gives me:
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration
Information:
Windows RE status: Disabled
Windows RE location:
Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: 676ad010-66aa-11e8-9465-fd58bb1da2ac

Recovery image index: 0

I have created USB Windows boot disk with Windows Media Creation tool.
and have tried automatic repair - not working.
Tried bootrec /rebuildbcd from there - not working.
Is there any way for me to tell the HP Recovery Manager where the recovery partition is located and to enable it?
I tried:
C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /enable
REAGENTC.EXE: Unable to update Boot Configuration Data.

I downloaded Windows 10 Media Creation tool from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
created USB stick and installed new Windows 10.
Initially there was some issue with partitions, I just used installation tool in advanced mode deleted all existing partitions, then from all 931Gb unallocted space clicked New in the tool which is great BTW because it created all different partitions needed inlcuding new recovery one!
The installation is clever enough to detect my existing Windows 10 key so when I started Windows it was not activated initially, but after connecting to the web with wifi Windows got activated itself.
Activation was my biggest concern because there was no key label on the bottom of that laptop.
Good job Microsoft
Hope that helps someone else too

Hi
Initially you may have 4 partitions...
UEFI boot partition
Windows C:
Recovery (about 16 gig) your 😧
RE TOOLS (hidden)
The process is that the TOOLS partition has to be found and fire off the Recovery, and assigning it drive letter K doesn't work.
Can you create a Recovery Media? Is there an option in the HP menu section?
You could in theory clone the 😧 to an external USB stick.
You could make an install disk from a MS .iso file. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Folks have tried using the HP Recovery partition from copies made to external drives and to USB sticks, and in ALL cases (from what I recall), NONE of them worked because it needs to be in a specific hardware location on the original drive in order to work.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

The product key is embedded on the motherboard.
If you had asked, we could have told you that.

Thank you, question realted to key embedding
I have a second HP laptop EliteBook 850 G1 when I tried to run Neosmart's OemKey tool I see:
Unable to open MSDM table!
This PC does not contain an embedded product key - search for a product key sticker or contact your manufacturer for assistance.
Does that mean that for this laptop the Microsoft Windows 10 product key is NOT embedded and I will have a problem when reinstalling Windows 10 using creation tool without having a product key to activate Windows 10?

If it currently has Windows 10, then Microsoft knows of it and will activate Windows 10.

Hi
Any decent LIVE Linux, Lubuntu, Knoppix etc etc DVD/USB
sudo cat /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM | strings | tail -n 1
That is the specific Debian command, but works in openSuSE et al.
So run it on both/all machines for a comparison if you like.
Engage Brain, This is not the embedded OEM key but may be worth knowing.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

His second laptop doesn't have Linux from the way he has worded his post.

Hi
No doubt you are perfectly accurate, however I based it on the OP "I have installed dual boot Linux," and made a huge leap of faith that they know what a LIVE Linux is. AND they have have, or can make a LIVE distro, and use it for five minutes to extract the data.
Anyway the info may be useful to someone else.
