Pavilion model 11-k007na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

So basically I've just renewed my laptop after wear and tear for the same model, but the problem is everytime I turn my laptop on the first sceeen that comes up is the HP hardware diagnostics program screen rather than just logging straight to my user login screen.

Hopefully somebody can help me stop this as don't want my kids pressing anything in that section when theyre using my laptop.

So if somebody could please help and let me know how I'd go about stopping this from happened, or what I may need to download to stop it?

Thank you

Are you sure that you are not accidentally hitting the F2 key during startup?

That is the only thing that I can think of that would allow the Diagnostics to start before the Windows login screen appears.

Does it run any tests automatically or does it give any errors when it appears?

Thanks for the reply.

It doesnt seem to indicate any problems or updates or anything, as all the updates on the system are up to date.  Everytime I turn the laptop off, and when it's turned back on the first screen to load is always HP PC Hardware diagnostics UEFI version 5.7.0.0 .  Then just has a load of boxed options like system information, system tools, component tests, firmware management etc.

Have you had any problem with your keyboard?  AKA keys being pressed when they are not or anything like that?  also i would check the BIOS for anything that might be causing the problem.  Last thing i would try is a BIOS Update.

Not as far as I'm aware as it's a new laptop, whereas I'd never even seen that diagnostics screen before on my previous system.  It doesn't give me an indication of a needed update or any problems as I've tried searching in it to see if anything needs opened, and even tried searching for the diagnostics in my settings incase I could find out how to fix it or deactive but nothing,

It gives me a web address to go to on the HP site but when I search it it says page not found. I managed to find a page on their site and it's upgraded my diagnostics to version 6.5 yet it still appears as the first thing when I boot my laptop up.

Install the latest version of PC Hardware Diagnostics version 6.5.

You can download it from the following HP website. Once you have downloaded the softpaqt, just double click on it to install the utility.

That should take care if the issue.

I've downloaded that new update to 6.5, I've also downloaded and updated the HP support assistant where I've updated everything available but the diagnostics system is still the first thing to open when laptop starts.  As nothing is saying there's any problems and everything is working fine, as I'd assume the diagnostics system is something I should beable to just start when needed rather than it being the primary thing opened on every reboot of my laptop.

As I just don't want my kids in that section incase they touch or click on things they shouldn't as they're use to it opening straight on to the user page for them to log in to their profile for them to use.

Thanks for the help.

I think you may have found the problem as it was brought to my attention by my daughter that the button to reduce screen brightness keeps doing it by itself during use, and that's the F2 button. If that's the button that starts the diagnostics program on set up then this looks like the reason why so I'll need that button sorted.

Thanks for the help.
