Hi,
I have an HP windows 8.1 laptop that stopped working over a year ago. Whenever I power it up the message "Boot Device Not Found" and "Please install an operating system on your hard disk"

I searched online and it kept showing me results on how to access the boot options from a working desktop (which I can't access because I can't go beyong the error message). I enabled Legacy Support from BIOS but after that it keeps showing "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
Since I can't access my windows 8.1 desktop, I need another way to get into the advanced boot options. I have a windows 10 working laptop. I need to get my files from my window 8.1 laptop onto to USB so I can import it to my working laptop.

Let me know if you need any other information.
I look forward to your answer!
Thank you in advance, for your help!

To get into BIOS you tap F10 when you get the start-up menu after pressing Esc key.

System Recovery isn't going to work if your hard drive has failed- and it sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. If not a retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc

Usually "No bootable disk" indicates the hard drive has failed. Unless you only got the message after  enabling Legacy support?

What are you trying to boot from?

To access boot options you start tapping Esc key immediately after powering on.

Thank you for your reply!

No, I didn't get the message after enabling Legacy Support. My laptop failed way before I even knew about Legacy support.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by the question "What are you trying to boot form?"

I pressed ESC when I powered it up, showed me the start menu.

I tried using System Recovery, it shows me a Hard Drive failed error message, and then goes back to the "no bootable device" message.

Before, I could access the Advanced Boot Options, but I don't remember how I did it, I just pressed on random buttons on my keyboard.

I need to get into the Advanced Boot Options, not just the regular boot options.
