Hi,

My laptop was stolen about 98 days ago and the person who stole it returned it not directly to me but through his lawyer. When I received it I turned it on and went to log in and of course the person who stole it put his own password on start-up.

1) is there a way to bypass or remove this password?

2)  If the above isn't an option, is there a way to wipe the computer from the system start up menu?

Thank you

At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code.

Hi, on the password screen I hit enter 3 times like you said but it just kept giving me the "Please enter your sign-in information and try again." message.

Hi again,

So everything was going well, was starting to set my laptop up the way I like it, downloading various things I like to use when I remembered I have yet downloaded the anti-virus/security software.  So I went ahead and started the download onto my lap top (I use bitdefender).  About 3 or 4 mins later I take a quick glance at the screen to see how the download is proceeding when to my surprise the screen read, "Hard disc drive is being wiped"!!!  I'm thinking holy crap.  Then I remembered that when it was initially stolen I forgot that I had sent wipe commands to my computer, at 5 in total since it was wiped.  The theif actually thought about that and removed Bitdefender. So when I sent the wipe command it was just waiting for someone dumb like me to reinstall Bitdefender.  Once it was reinstalled, it started the hard disk wipe command.  So now I have a completely clean drive etc.

I don't have any backups at all, so what do I do?  I believe I have windows 10 on a disk.  But nothering else, no HP stuff or anything.

I forgot to add that I am currently running a "Start-up Test" from the bios (I think that's what it's called you.

I do not support reinstalling the system , when users encounter operating system problems, they choose to reinstall the system, even if it is a free way to access the computer bypass Windows 10 login password , but  this method will erase all data and information from the primary disk. It's going to take a lot of risk ,
