Probably the best hope of recovering your files is to remove the Hard drive and attach it to a SATA to USB Adapter. Plug into usb port of another machine. If it isn't totally corrupt you should be able to browse for the User folder where your files are and copy them over to drive of host machine.

The hard drive is the problem so putting it into another laptop isn't going to help unless you mean put it into a laptop that can hold 2 drives.. I think your laptop is probably fine- it is the hard drive.
As for directly transferring from the drive you could boot with a rescue cd/usb and copy files off to a backup. Several tools out there.
