After the latest Windows 10 update my laptop starts with a blank screen - the caps lock light is blinking and the wifi light is on. I've tried different keys on startup like repeatedly pressing the esc button, Windows+b, Windows+v, b. Nothing has worked so far. Because the laptop is over 10 years old I can't download BIOS recovery from HP Support. I'm hoping someone else in the community can assist with a solution. The laptop was working fine and should have plenty of life left. I've got older HP laptops still working and a more recent Envy 15 that is now my main computer. Please help.
HP Envy 15-3000 Notebook Quad Core i7-2860QM 3.6GHz, 15.6 HD LED Full HD 1920x1080, 16GB-DDR3 RAM, 480GB SSD, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 7690M Graphics, backlit keyboard, WiFi-n, Webcam.

Thanks very much to Irwin6 at HP Support for taking the trouble to respond with helpful advice. I clicked on the link to watch the video and went to the support page ready to lookup the meaning of my blinking lights, but when I tried starting my notebook after a week of waiting for help I noticed the caps lock white light was now repeating slow blinks while the wifi light was a steady red. This was different to what I experienced last week, but I couldn't find the answer on the support page. All of a sudden the screen came on and the lights returned to normal. It seems my notebook is now working again, but I'm still not sure what was going on internally after the Windows 10 update. Of course the first thing I did was ensure all my data was backed up and I think I'll be taking backups before any further Windows updates (if I'm game to run the gauntlet again).

Hi Irwin
Unfortunately I've had a reoccurrence of the issue and have been unable to identify the light sequence: one long white light repeatedly on the caps lock key while the wifi light stays red.
I've tried holding the power key for 15 seconds with everything unplugged for a forced reset - no difference.
I've tried repeatedly pressing the esc key on startup - no startup menu.
I've tried holding Windows-b keys on startup - no BIOS recovery.
I've tried inserting the recovery USB created after my previous issue seemed to be resolved - no action.
What seemed to work last time was waiting for a week, so I guess I'll try that again.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas.
Thanks
Ken
