I've got the black 3FO error screen. The drives were just erased. No operating systee rt now. My envy x360 laptop can't read a USB drive . Pressing F9 goes to an empty boot options menu. The boot order will not change from OS boot manager, so it will not try USB or network boot. When I press Win + B to enter the bios recovery, it tells me the recovery files are missing or corrupt ? It's an Insyde F.19 bios. What can I do recover/ flash the bios to get it to read the usb and to
Get reinstallation completed?

@LetsRide973, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're dealing with a corrupted BIOS and missing recovery files on an HP Envy x360 with Insyde BIOS F.19, compounded by the system not reading USB drives or showing boot options properly. This is a serious recovery situation, but here’s a structured approach to attempt BIOS recovery and reinstallation:
Step 1: Verify the USB Drive Setup
You’ll need another working PC to create the BIOS recovery USB.
- Format the USB stick (32 GB) to FAT32.
- Go to HP support site for your model: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
- Search your exact Envy x360 model, then:
- Download the latest BIOS (F.19 or whatever is current).
- Run the .exe file on a working PC.
- When prompted, choose "Create Recovery USB Flash Drive".
- The tool will write BIOS recovery files to your USB.
If it doesn’t give you this option, extract the .exe using 7-Zip, and look for files like 0839F.BIN, 0839F.SIG, etc., and place them on the USB root.
Step 2: Try BIOS Recovery Again (Win + B method)
- Insert the USB into the left USB-A port (avoid USB-C if possible).
- Turn off the laptop.
- Hold down Win + B (or sometimes Win + V).
- While holding those keys, press and hold Power for about 5 seconds.
- Release Power but keep holding Win + B for another 5–10 seconds.
- Wait — the screen may stay black for up to a minute, and fans may spin up.
- If successful, you’ll get a BIOS Recovery screen.
If it says “missing recovery files” again, ensure the .BIN and .SIG files are named properly. On some HP BIOS packages, the recovery file must be renamed to a specific name, like HPBIOS.BIN.
Step 3: Reset BIOS Boot Settings
If BIOS Recovery fails:
- Remove the AC adapter.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds (discharge residual power).
- Try F10 to enter BIOS setup.
- If it works, reset BIOS to defaults, disable Secure Boot, and enable Legacy USB support (if available).
- Try booting USB via F9 Boot Menu again.
If the BIOS is severely corrupted and none of the above work:
You may need to replace the BIOS chip or have it reprogrammed. We suggest please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
