HP Laptop Model 15-da0599sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop computer was stuck in “Windows startup repair” loop. I have reset the machine to its original Windows 10 using the HP recovery software on a USB drive. During that procedure I saved data about the former installation using the “Automatic selection” option and now need to restore it back onto the machine.

Using the "restore.exe" included with the saved data on the USB drive, I am asked where to restore to and wherever I restore to I get a directory with a name in the form of an “open square bracket”, the date that the restore was executed, a space, six numbers, and a “close square bracket”, such as [2023-05-31 nnnnnn], which has all the uncompressed data that was saved.

How do I get the data to restore to the right place?
