Hi,

I have a notebook/tablet that I tried to update Windows 10 and it just crashed on update and was stuck in a loop. I tried to reset the pc by pressing f11 until the recovery section appeared, but when trying to reset it came up with an error and now it doesn't load up at all and comes up with CMOS Reset (502) error message.

Can anyone help, I'm not fussed about restoring any documents I just want to restore the notebook so it can be used again.

Thanks in advance

@Tomobegood

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

During the startup process, the system performs a checksum test of the BIOS. If the checksum is incorrect, the BIOS is assumed to be corrupt and the system installs a hidden copy of the BIOS to correct the problem, and the startup process continues. The following message displays for 15 seconds before the computer automatically reboots. You have the option of pressing Enter to proceed without waiting 15 seconds.

Identifying the CMOS Checksum Error (502)

To resolve the CMOS Reset Error (502), restore the BIOS.

  1. Press Enter to restart the PC.

  2. If the error displays after restarting, try to restore the BIOS using a USB drive. For more information, see the "Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive" section of the following:
  3. If restoring the BIOS fails, contact HP. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
