Hi all when I logged into Zoom today for meetings  noticed that my camera came up distorted. Colors are fine, but the image is distorted vertically. A restart didn't solve the problem.  Camera worked fine yesterday and it was not physically damaged. I checked drivers in device manager(the camera shows up and seems to function as usual, except for a distorted image. It seems that the driver is updated, and since I cannot find standalone drivers,in doing a system restore. Any additional thoughts?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • 1. Go into Device Manager, then Imaging Devices.
  • 2. Right-click on the webcam, and select "uninstall".
  • 3. Restart the computer. This will force the webcam driver to be reinstalled.

If that doesn't help, then you can try steps from this article: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03430151

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi this problem has come up again. The only solution that works is to do a system restore. Uninstalling the camera from the device manager AND RESTARTING the machine shows no camera installed after restarting. What I think happens is every few weeks, windows updates cause the camera to distort the image. Is there a way to uninstall the camera, restart and find the driver again?

Thank you for posting back.

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
