Hi  @AidyS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern about the  built-in keyboard suddenly stops responding, and I appreciate you sharing that you’re currently using a USB keyboard as a workaround.

Could you please confirm the exact model number?

In the meantime, here are some practical steps you can try right away:

1.Verify Keyboard Settings

Go to Device Manager → Keyboards

Look for your built-in keyboard in the list

If you see a yellow warning icon, right-click → Update driver

If disabled, right-click → Enable device

2.Run Hardware Diagnostics

HP laptops include built-in diagnostics to test hardware.

Restart laptop → Press F2 or Esc → Select System Diagnostics

Run the keyboard test

Note any error codes or failures

3.Check BIOS Settings

The keyboard may be disabled at firmware level.

Restart laptop → Press F10 to enter BIOS

Ensure the internal keyboard is enabled

Save changes and exit

4.Perform a Power Reset

Often Resolves Issues

Residual power can sometimes cause hardware glitches.

Shut down the laptop

Disconnect power adapter and remove battery

Hold power button for 30 seconds

Reconnect and restart

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, the next step would be to check whether the keyboard ribbon cable inside the laptop has come loose, which may require a technician’s assistance.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
