HP 17.3 HD+ Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP is showing a bios update for my new notebook.  Having no problems at this time.  Last time it attempted to update the bios from HP on a previous computer I had to return the computer to HP for repairs.  It messed up my computer.  Would you recommend installing the update if I am currently expericing no problems at this time.  Just got the notebook and HP is showing about 8 updates to it including the bios update.  Thanks.

I wouldn't update it- especially with HP Support Assistant. I have seen at least 5 laptops in the last few days end up with no-boot after doing that. Better to check you Support page to see what BIOS is there.

What is the full Model and/or Product number of your laptop? Easiest way to get that info- minimize all open windows so you can see your desktop screen. Next hold the fn key and press esc key.

Thanks for replying.  My notebook is HP 17.3 HD+ Notebook, intel Core i5-8250U processor.  Product #4BV57UA#ABA.  The updates listed are shown as messages when I login to my HP account.  Now I am even concerned about some of the other updates listed as they look like some of the updates that I got from windows update Win10 ver1809. Like I previously said the last time I tried a bios update thru HP it messed up my computer so bad that I had to send it to HP for repairs.  This was for a earlier computer.

No need to risk a BIOS update unless it addresses some problem you are having. Looking at your Support page the latest BIOS is F.22. The description of the BIOS  says it fixes a problem with arrow key not working properly.

To determine what BIOS version you have-if it isn't listed with other info in fn +Esc- type system information in the search/cortana bar beside Start button.

Thank you.  My bios shows as F.14 dated 07-27-18.  Think I will leave well enough along for now.

I went to the site you enclosed and it said that there currently were no updates available  for this product windows - windows 10 64 bit.  Funny how different HP sites show different information for the same product.  When I go on another computer and bring up the same product in my HP account it shows software updates available?

Not sure what the problem is. To test it- I clicked on the link I posted earlier and it still takes me to full software/drivers list for your model.

Interesting when I click on your link and put in windows for operating system and windows 10 64 bit I get message No software or drivers are available for this product with the selected operating system. Please make a different selection, or visit the product homepage.  But, when I launch HP support assistant it lists several updates including the bios update.  Some of those updates shown concerning the audio appear to be similiar to the windows updates from microsoft. ???

Yes, Microsoft has most of the updates from HP. From what I have been told Microsoft eventually wants to be the primary source of updates either through WU or the MS Store.

Just got a HP bios update downloaded and installed thru win 10 update.  Appears to be working ok but, am concerned that it did not tell me that it was a bios update until it started installing it.  Is there a way to control what win 10 updates to install or not install? The new bios is F33.
