Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I went to turn on my computer today and it Did not turn ON. I used it last night and it worked fine. So I plugged in my charger, the notebook would not charge at all. I unplugged the adapter and tried new outlets, testing other electronics on the outlets as well. I assumed there was an issue with the charger, went to Best Buy and they tried another charger which did not work. When I plug it in and press the power button, the light by the charge port blinks 3 times, but the computer does not power on. Can anyone offer some insight? Not sure what is going on or what to do next...

Hello @SushmaA,

Its normally the Power input jack is bad or the Charger of the laptop.

The LED flashing three times just means that it knows that there is a battery there, but it doesn't have enough power to run the laptop.

Your battery has died because your power cord has not been supplying power to your PC. You would not be aware at this point that the laptop was running from the battery. The battery has just run out of charge.

The best thing would be to do is see if anyone has a battery like yours and try it with the new battery fully charged.

You might want to take a look at this document: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.

It suggests troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is the battery, the power supply, or the system board.

You might find the answer to your battery/power issue as you work through the steps in that HP support article.

Unfortunately, I see this failure reported a lot with Spectre 13 4xxx/41xx models. Evidently not power adapter since Best Buy charger didn't work either.

It is usually the motherboard. Hard to run any diagnostics on it if it won't even power on.

Hello, the same thing happened to me, when I wanted to turn on, the led blinked 3 times and did not start, I read many forums without solution. Fix it by doing the following: Disconnect the battery and SSD, probe connect the charger and to my surprise it turned on, so I reconnected everything as it was and now it works fine. regards

hi Richard,

thanks for your helpful post.  what does it mean to probe connect the charger?  thanks in advance!

Hi, "what does it mean to probe connect the charger?"

means, connect the charger to the notebook and it's on

The computer actually has the words Hewlet-Packard in raised letters on the outside. but I think it is the same as the others giving problems. i.e., the LED near the charging port flashes 3 times, but the laptop does not turn on at all. Do you mean we remove the entire back cover to get the battery out? :"Disconnect the battery and SSD, probe connect ,..."

Thanks,
