@Tanya59orig, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP17-g121wm laptop

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Power Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices (printers, USB drives, etc.).
  • Disconnect the power cord and remove the battery if it's removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and the power cord, then attempt to turn on the laptop again.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 as it boots up to enter the Boot Options menu.
  • Select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking".
  • In Safe Mode, try to uninstall recent updates or perform a system restore if possible.

Perform a Hard Drive Test:

  • If your laptop has built-in diagnostics, you can run a hard drive test to ensure there is no hardware failure.

Startup Repair:

  • Boot from a Windows installation USB or DVD.
  • Select "Repair your computer" from the menu.
  • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "Startup Repair".

Check for Corrupted System Files:

  • If capable of booting into Safe Mode, open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Execute the command sfc /scannow to check and repair corrupted files.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
