I tried.  It took forever to format, I assumed it had hung but I let it go overnight.  It never reported 100% complete, it stuck at 95%.  I killed and restarted the utility and it reported Disk 0 as formatted as NTFS.  I tried to install Win 8 and failed the same way. 

 

I thought I would try one more time and restarted hitting Esc for the setup menu.  Now it won't even show me the setup menu, just sits there with the HP logo. I'd say it is dead.  😞

It ws the 2nd SSD I tried.

I agree.  If it is the second SSD you tried and now the whole notebook is frozen, I would consider it dead too.
