I am unable to turn on Location Services. I spent 90 minutes in online chat earlier tonight and the tech support had remote connection to my laptop. He did a "repair installation process that will refresh my whole system and features and at the same time install the latest version of Windows device". He said that this process will replace/overwrite the current system files on my laptop that is causing this issue to happen. He said that my laptop will undergo three restarts during this process. He also told me to click on "install" after the Windows repair has been downloaded. I did everything he told me to do, but it didn't work. Also, my laptop did not restart 3 times. It restarted one time. I'd also like to mention that I've had problems with this laptop ever since I first purchased it and had to send it back 6 months after I bought it to have the mother board replaced. I purchased this in May 2022 and the warranty expired 3 months ago.

@bcavallero, Thank you for your response

My colleague @Kuroi_Kenshi is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue, especially after spending that much time with tech support and not getting the result you need. I can definitely walk you through some additional troubleshooting steps for your HP laptop to see if we can resolve the Location Services issue.

Check Location Services Settings

First, ensure that Location Services is enabled in the Windows settings:

Go to: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location

Toggle the Location service switch to "On".

Scroll down to ensure that Allow apps to access your location is enabled.

If this is already on, try turning it off and on again to see if it triggers a change.

Run Windows Troubleshooter for Location

Sometimes running a built-in troubleshooter can help identify and fix issues automatically.

Go to: Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters

Find and click on Location, then select Run.

Follow the prompts and see if Windows finds any problems.

Check the Windows Services

Sometimes, the services that control Location Services could be disabled.

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.

Scroll down and look for Location Service (or a similar name).

Make sure the Status is "Running" and the Startup type is set to Automatic. If not, right-click on it and select Start or Restart.

Check for Windows Updates

Even if you already did a "repair install," there might be some additional updates that weren’t applied.

Go to: Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Make sure that your system is fully up to date and try again.

Run System File Checker (SFC)

Corrupted system files might cause issues with certain services. Run the System File Checker to repair these files:

Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Wait for the process to finish and restart your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Garp_senchau,

Thank you for all of your suggestions. However, here are my results:

#1 - That didn't work

#2 - When I got to "Other troubleshooters", I couldn't find "Location" anywhere

#3 - There was no "Location Service" listed, and I didn't see anything with a similar name.

#4 - My Windows Updates were up to date

#5 - After I entered "sfc/scannow", it said, "Command Not Found"

Therefore, none of your suggestions worked. Is there anything else I can try?

Hey @bcavallero

Thanks for reaching out! Since the issue remains unresolved, I suggest contacting our phone/chat support team for personalized assistance. They can provide one-on-one help and may even be able to work their remote assistance magic to fix the problem.

Note: There might be a nominal charge for the service they provide.
