I really need this driver—please help! 😭 I installed Linux and now want to switch back to Windows 11, but the installer is missing the driver needed to detect the SSD. Please help me find the driver or another solution to the problem.

Dozens of folks used the same instructions to install IRST VMD drivers successfully on the Intel Core 11th-13th gen processors platform.

See this thread. The person installed RST drivers in a Linux notebook.

I don't know what's causing your installation problem, but here're a couple of suggestions.

Run a hard drive test (press the F2 key repeatedly on bootup) and do a SMART check and long DST test. If the test detects a fault, the Windows installer may not detect the SSD.

Use a different usb drive. You just need a minimum 8 GB usb drive. Redownload Media Creation Tool and create a new installation drive and try again.

Media Creation Tool is the best way to create an installation usb drive, but if you want to use a Windows ISO file, use Rufus to make it bootable.

If you still can't install IRST drivers, you may try HP Cloud Recovery Tool.

@nendee,

If your notebook has an Intel Core 8th or 10th gen processor and Optane memory, you need Intel RST drivers. If you have an Intel Core 11th gen or higher processor, you need Intel RST VMD drivers. So, you need to provide the full model number or product number of your notebook.

See the post below. This person has the same processor (i5-13420H) and was successfully installed IRST drivers. You can follow the instructions in the thread.

Since your notebook came with W11 preinstalled, you can use HP Cloud Recovery Tool to restore the SSD to a factory state. Click the link below for how to use the recovery tool.

You can install W11 with either way.

I don't know, I can't do anything. I won't be able to use it Microsoft media creation tool on linux. I tried creating a bootable USB flash drive and adding various drivers rst vmd But the installer either doesn't accept the drivers or simply doesn't see them. There were other attempts, but they didn't even reach the installer. It reached the installer through Ventoy.

In general, I was able to solve the problem simply by using a different computer and creating a bootable USB drive using Rufus. Thank you very much for your help.
