I turned on my computer and ended up with a blank blue screen.

I restarted the computer,pressed the Esc key, and got to the Start up Menu.

Chose System Diagnostics, and received the following:

 

​Hard Drive Sort DST Check: FAILED
Failure ID: 9Q92KS-82U965-PXPJMF-60TA03
 
Product ID: N5Y90UAR#ABA
 
Hard Drive 1 -Primary HDD Bay*​
 
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Your Hard Drive needs to be replaced. If your computer is still within warranty and purchased the computer in US. Kindly call 1800-474-6836 for SSD replacement. Details of the failure ID will be listed below.

Thank you for your help. However the computer is out of Warranty, how do I know what Hard Drive to purchase?

Hi Tom714,

Hard drive - 1TB 5400RPM hard drive

 

In order for you to get the right item. I would highly suggest to call HP Online Store. Heres the number 1866 684 6707. Let them know that you are interested in purchasing a new hard drive.

I would buy a retail drive- probably half the cost of what HP will charge for the same brand of drive. You also usually get a 3-5 yr warranty if you buy at retail vs HP's 1 yr warranty. Western Digital, Seagate,Toshiba, etc all make 1tb Mobile SATA 2.5"drives. Nothing mysterious there.

 

Your Maintenance and Service Guide gives drive specifications and how to change it. Your model is not one of the easier ones.
