Try it but I don't think it'll work.

Incase it doesn't, you can always create a bootable USB from Windows ISO and reinstall Windows.

In most cases, the reinstalled version of Windows will be automatically reactivated if Windows was pre-installed in your machine. But it is always safe to note down your product key.

After reinstalling, run Windows update completely. Then download HP support assistant and get all the required drivers and softwares.

Good luck.

I think it may actually work to take a restore USB from an identical notebook and use it to restore another so as @SayantanRC advised, give it a try.  Someone here uploaded an ISO file of their restore USB they created from their Stream 7 tablet and many downloaded it to restore their own tablets.  That was for Windows 8.1 with Bing however so there might be a difference. Let us know how it goes.

I thought that Recovery USB from one device might not work on another, as while ordering a Recovery drive from HP, I was told that I need to enter my Serial Number of my laptop. So there might be some sort of "key" associated with each Recovery drive. I'm not sure though.

Anyway, why to buy a Recovery drive when you can do things manually?

I contacted the tech from Harvey Norman who thought it could be done but unfortunately there seemed to be a deeper issue which required attention so I passed the problem to him. He cleaned up the hard drive and put a new image on for me. Will update drivers and make a backup before anything else happens. h
