I have hp g7 pavilion laptop with Windows 10 OS. It does not boot. So, I tried using recovery disk using kasperkov recovery CD-ROM after resetting BIOS with boot options. I hit ESC to change boot options. I went to UEFI boot options to boot first from internal CD/DVD ROM drive. It does read from CD ROM drive but it goes back to automatic repair and loops there for ever. I tried changing boot options to USB Diskette on key/USB Hard disk. Still it hangs in automatic repair. Any solution to extract data from laptop? Please reply ASAP to anarasimhan@ieee.org. Thanks.

You should have mentioned the need to do data recovery up front, as I could have provided you the material below back then...
Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:
1) Remove the hard drive from the old PC
2) Purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit (like the one illustrated below)
3) Connect the old drive to a working PC using that adapter
4) Try to retrieve the files and folders you want to save from the old drive and copy them to the new PC.
If this does not work, then you need to do the following:
1) Download and install this utility on a working PC http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_...
2) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the old drive.
If that tool does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva
And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free http://www.file-recovery.com/

You said your PC is reading from the drives, but is it only blinking quickly? When it actually reads from a disk or USB stick, the screen will go completely black for some period of time, 30 seconds to two minutes., If it is not staying black that long, it is only scanning the devices and not actually try to boot from them.

Thanks for your response. I have waited for more than 15 minutes and it does not boot from CD-ROM or USB stick. I even pressed Esc and F9 to go to CD-ROM but it just goes to BIOS and BIOS will not direct it to boot from CD-ROM (I believe). I would like to know what is the solution as I want to some how get data on the laptop. Is there any thing i can do. In the past windows 95 and before we were able to get to DOS or C: and recover data on disk. Now, it looks like it is almost impossible. Any help in this regard will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello:
Thanks for your suggestion. I think this is the ultimate solution that I may be forced to take. I just want to ask you when I am able to change order of to boot in BIOS can be done. I see either under UEFI CDROM or USB can be set at the top by using function keys. It changes on BIOS, but it does not function as requested in BIOS. What could be the reason and what is the solution as it does not take input from those devices. Thanks once again for your fast response.
